New World

After a month and a half wandering around the hospital wards, hearing swearing and moaning in the A&E department, running after tutors, hearing complaints at the OP offices and testing the several coffee machines I guess I can say that I'm getting quite used to hospital life. I'm particularly enjoying the practical side of medicine and, unknowingly, I'm finding myself reading and writing notes just for the sake of interest (this I haven't done since the sweet old days when I was obsessed with organic chemistry).

(For the occasional 1st and 2nd year Med. student who reads this blog I confirm, like my predecessors did, that there is a HUGE difference between the campus years and the clinical years and to be completely honest I reckon you should enjoy both).

Rugby season has started once again and we managed to win our first game without difficulty (although frankly, the referee was a bit of a w*****r). I guess pre-season fitness training paid off and my fitness has definitely improved. I'm running faster, lifting better and tackling harder (at the cost of more bruises) and with a noticeable increase in my team-mates' performance I think we could make a definite hit in this year's league.

I also increased my MMSA workload, helping SCORP constantly with design and project management, attending SCOPH's WDD, aiding the Leisure Comittee in finding a suitable sponsor and helping them in the Christmas party preparations. I can already smell the sweet smell of aeroplane upholstery......

Anyway I'm off to continue some filing (guess some things never change :P)

Peace!!

PS: Relax christmas coming up. After so many years I can actaully calm down a bit during the month of December.

Time flies by.....

Once again, excuse me for the lack of posts this summer and *again* I hope I will increase my blogging frequency ten-fold, but then again blogging inspiration is lacking for some other-worldly reason.

So another summer ended. Quite the summer, although it didn't add up to what I hoped for owing to certain circumstances....

My antics with EC students back in July and August, which resulted in a very bad case of sleep deprivation (ergo my sleeping 14 hours per day during the last month), took up most of my summer but the annual trip to Gozo was quite enjoyable (apart from the rodent infested Hondoq Ir-rummien), not to mention my birthday bash and the occasional bbqs we had in the past months.

Alas, now we get back to work. I awaited this year for a long time now, in fact it was my main goal since I first went into this course and realised that we would be sharpening our skills in necromancy for the first two years of the said course. One thing is for sure though, there is a lot of work to be done in the next three years, at least that's the common factor I managed to wring out of the feedback I got from older students. Some may tell tell you it's just plain hard, others will tell you it's fun, and obviously there's the usual conflict of opinions when it comes to annual exam study load. In any case we'll see how I'll fare in the next few months.

What can I say..... Clinicals here I come!

PEACE OUT!

The 1:30am Blog

Hey there!

It's been a while since I wrote a blog but here it goes....

I just came home from an exciting yet pleasant poker game at Andrea's house which must organised again, you know, taking a break from the norm, that is boring old paceville and discotheques.

Apart from that a couple of other events took place in the past month:

A) Started working for EC. I'm in my 3rd week now, having started on the 3rd of July with a group of cool yet panicky Italians. Now I'm just lending a hand to another leader until her group leaves. It's a fun job overall, better than washing up 8 dementia-ridden-senior-citizens per day like 2 years ago or carrying 300 yellow pages compendiums a day under the August sun. Overall it's quite an easy job with several pros but which can become boring if the activity timetable remains the same. Other than that I can't complain.

B)Bus-strike was nightmare. Yes, I know I have a car and yeah they will pay me for the trouble and petrol but the racket on the roads didn't make it an easy job.

C) I'm back on the Insiter team as an 'occasional' writer once again.

D) Rugby training has started along with a carefully planned fitness regime and a new committee.

E) Went to the monsters of rock festival last Friday. It was a blast in every sense. Action in DC were simply amazing - we just couldn't get enough of them.

F) Last but not least all have come out. I must say that I passed with flying colours, having obtained very good grades, meaning that from now on I'm an official 3rd year medical student ready to be shipped to mater dei to be whipped into shape by consultants lurking around in the pristine wards.

Overall this summer has been a blast even though I wasted half of July pondering about my pathology result and running back and forth from St.Martin's college to EC bus stops but I've got much more planned for the future especially during the last 2 weeks before I start the next academic year, including the annual camping trip, farmhouse stay and more.

Until next time,

FAREWELL!

Yours in Wooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!-ness

What was that word?... Oh yeah! - Apathy

This is no news to the maltese bloggers but the weather out there is ludicrously hot and what is more ludicrous in my opinion is that I'm still studying. What's worst (yeah, this isn't the little-ray-of-sunshine kind of blog), I have to do my pathology exam in a suit, the results haven't come out yet because of the MUT strike which seems to have remained dormant for the past two weeks or so, meaning that we have to satisfy our curiosity with a couple of rumours scurrying around the anatomy and physiology halls - which, might I add, are never completely true AND I don't feel like doing anything. Yes, pathology is the most clinically relevant topic we've done and yes, I know it's not a walk through the park but still here I am watching episode after episode of Family Guy instead of ploughing through all these microbiology presentations.

Anyway, the exam is next Monday and the Anatomy practical is the day after. Hopefully I won't get a viva for any reason meaning that I can at least heave out a sigh of relief on Tuesday, even though I'll be on tenterhooks the day after that, waiting to see how I did in anatomy.

Let's hope for the best and please If you finished your exams (like 99% of the university population) - DON'T RUB IT IN!

I'll leave you with a good song:

Another breath before another plunge

I'm back and three exams are over, they weren't so bad, we'll see in about 2-3 weeks time I guess. Other than that everything's the same I guess, nothing to write home about (or on a blog for that matter, but I'm writing this to let people know that I haven't lost it). Still missing from the world of rugby, fun and anything that keeps me sane (I wouldn't have been surprised if I found a 'missing' poster near st.Aloysuis training grounds, but Peter just called to check if I'm still alive, why I haven't been down to training and why the hell I'm missing next week's Italian serie C rugby tour?!?!?! - If I didn't know that he was a sensible person I wouldn't have risked telling him that the tour was smack in the middle, between my last anatomy exam and pharmacology test. I wonder what David would have done........?).

Anyhow can't wait till the 24th - Moulin Rouge party is on the way and a following six days of relentless partying, trying to pack a whole summer worth of merriment in 6 days before I start working with EC.

Anyway I'm going to spend the rest of this evening loitering around before I start my normal study routine tomorrow morning (....neuroanatomy is starting to grow on me for some strange masocistic reason).
